John Freeman is a professional classical trumpet player who lives, plays, and teaches trumpet in the San Francisco Bay Area.


John is the Principal Trumpet of several Bay Area Orchestras- the Marin Symphony, the Stockton Symphony, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, and the Fresno Philharmonic. He is also a member of the Oakland Symphony, The San Francisco Contemporary Players and San Jose Opera. Additionally, John frequently performs with many other local groups such as the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera and Ballet, the California Symphony, the Modesto Symphony Orchestra, Symphony San Jose, among others. During the summers, John travels to Colorado to perform with the Central City Opera. In addition to symphonic music, John has performed with a wide variety of ensembles including brass quintets, Broadway pit orchestras, big bands, salsa bands and even rock bands. He is also the Adjunct Trumpet Professor at San Jose State University. Before moving to the Bay Area, John was the Principal Trumpet of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra in South Carolina. He lives in Oakland with his wife Robin.                                       


When he’s not performing or teaching music, John enjoys cycling, running, lifting weights, learning about health and nutrition, and home roasting coffee.
